Let the tilling begin
February 14th, 2008 Posted in Farm
I made the first pass over the first acre we’ll be growing on this year with the tiller yesterday. The soil on the new property is beautiful! A really nice sandy loam. Every farmers dream.
I plan to go back through tomorrow with the subsoiler to do a nice deep tillage to open up the existing bottom pan and then a couple final passes with the tiller to get a seed bed. We won’t be seeding in to these beds immediately but we’ve found you have to use the February “break in rain” to get as much accomplished as possible.
Today my brother-in-law Dave and I put in 750 feet of buried mainline for our irrigation system. Yet another check off our list of things to do.

I think if I were working in that field, I would be mesmerized by the view.
Sure doesn’t look like Northwest Missouri does it!

That’s why I love the farming here. Anytime I get stressed out I just stop, take a breath and look around. It’s pretty cool.
