Lifeline is thin.

The Applegate Bridge is currently closed. Closed? Yep, that’s right, closed.
Saturday morning a semi with a big bulldozer on the back, crossed the bridge, came too close to the bridge itself, and ripped through several of the main support girders with the blade of the dozer. WHOA!
So there are a lot of practical questions asked since this is one of two bridges that allow us out of the valley. We can currently still get to the other side of the bridge via a detour- but the detour is about 30- 40 minutes.
But the thing I thought about most is the fact of how thin our lifeline to the outside world really is. We live in a world surrounded by things that, if gone or changed, make our lives increasingly difficult. It made me stop and think for a few minutes and check in with myself to make sure that I hadn’t become “too comfortable” with the world around me. Not that I’ll be making any gigantic life changes from this. It’s more of a gentle reminder that the veil is “thin” and that I should be grateful for what I do have.
Now if they could just get the bridge open again………..
