What’s at Market? Week of September 14th
September 15th, 2008 Posted in What's @ Market ?Several notes of interest:
If you’re looking for a bulk amount of peppers- bell or sweet- we’re offering them at our wholesale cost, which is $2.50/ pound for anything 10 pounds or more for the bell peppers and $3.50/ pound for anything 5 pounds or more for the sweet peppers.
I’ve had several folks ask about bulk quantities to freeze, can , or dry and we have A LOT of peppers. Our favorite (and easiest) way to keep peppers is to cut, bag, and throw in the freezer. Simple!
Another note is about the Blue Fox Market Bucks… If you’ve run out, we have more! This is the time to get more too, right before all the great fall/winter storage crops come in. We’ll have special pricing on most of our fall storage crops in quantity. If you’re interested in getting more Bucks, just ask at market or send an email to us here at the farm.
Should we have a farm day before the end of the season? A potluck for socializing and to talk about what works and doesn’t work for the new CSA format….. What do you think? When would be the best time? Would love some feedback from the membership. As far as we’re concerned we’re just starting with this community food project we call Blue Fox Farm- we’re open to new ideas and directions to head. We’d love to hear your thoughts.
And finally a note on voting…… I’m going to be voting this November for the first time since I was 18. Yes I know, bad citizen….. well I have my reasons. But Melanie and I both have decided that if there ever was a time to vote, it’s now. We’re at a cross roads in the history of our relatively young country. (Remember there are nations that have thousands of years under their belt) I think we forget that America is basically a know-it-all teenager right now. But remember, teenagers eventually become adults……
Enough with the analogies. Basically what I want to say is this:
I don’t care who you vote for. Please just go and vote. You can think it won’t matter, but maybe for once it will. I’m trying to paint over my cynical farmer attitude with a coat of fresh ,”Maybe we do have a chance to wake up as a nation.”
Okay so on with the important stuff. The food:
- Arugula
- Basil
- Beets
- Braising Mix
- Cabbage- green and savoy
- Carrots
- Chard
- Cukes
- Edamame
- Eggplant
- Garlic
- Kale
- Leeks
- Lettuce
- Onions
- Parsley
- Shallots
- Strawberries are back!
- Bell Peppers (see above about bulk deals)
- Sweet Peppers (see above about bulk deals)
- Hot Peppers
- Potatoes
- Salad Mix
- Spinach
- Tomatoes
- Zucchini
- Fennel
- Tatsoi
Last note: I won’t be at Ashland market on Tuesday. Don’t be alarmed if you can’t find the bearded guy at the Blue Fox stand. I’ll be in the field again getting the ground ready for fall cover crops and opening up a new section to be planted to veggies next season. Next season thoughts and plans already. But please stop by the stand and say hi to our “Allstar” crew. (I wanted to say “kickass” crew but thought it might be inappropriate) Oh I did just say that. Anyway….. Our crew this season has been amazing. Melanie and I are so happy to have people working with us that just “get it”. By that, I mean people that have raw, focused, fast energy in the fields (if my crew is reading this right now, they’re laughing at this part) and then clean up (mostly) to present a beautiful display of the cliche’ “fruits of our labor”. The veggies (and farmers) do clean up nice don’t they? That was my tribute to my crew here at Blue Fox Farm. Thank you for being crazy and awesome!
